The 6th annual Joliet Unity Movement presents “815 Youth Day” this Sunday August 11th at Nowell Park. The movement was created by people who were affected by violence to some degree or another.

That’s activist Amy Sanchez who was born and raised on the East side of Joliet. At the age of 9 she was the victim of a drive by shooting. The bullet hit near her brain. And she was told she may be paralyzed or not be able to speak for the rest of her life. Miraculously she recovered and is at the forefront of stopping violence in youth. Th event takes place this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nowell Park, there will be music, basketball tournament, double dutch contest food and more. This is a free event, and every minor child has to be accompanied by an adult.
