Joliet Township High School’s Special Olympics Basketball “Gold” Team will compete in the Illinois Special Olympics State Tournament in March, representing Region E, while pursuing their second straight State Title.

To qualify for State, the JTHS Special Olympics Team competed in the Region E Special Olympics Division 5 Regional Tournament, where JTHS’ Gold Team defeated Sheppard and Kankakee High Schools to win their 2nd straight Region E Division 5 Championship. The Gold Team is coached by Kamron Majerus.  JTHS’ Blue Team earned a silver medal by placing second. They defeated Elim Christian High School, but were narrowly defeated by Bradley Bourbonnais High School in the Championship Round.  This is the best finish the Joliet Township Special Olympics Blue Team has had. The Blue Team is coached by Anna Bushong and Caroline Krotiak.

AVAC/PI/VI Transition Coordinator Lynda Shanks said, “We would like to thank the parents and coaches for working and supporting us throughout the year. A special thanks goes to Nowell Park Fitness Center for allowing us to practice regularly to build our skills. Also, thank you to a gracious donor for allowing our players to be supplied with such wonderful uniforms. Thank you to all.”

JTHS congratulates the JTHS Special Olympics Basketball teams on their success and cheers the Gold Team on as they proceed to the Special Olympics State Tournament.
