Juvenile Arrested For Drugs & Guns In Joliet

The Joliet police department arrested a 17-year-old male for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, No FOID, and Possession of Cannabis.

The 17-year-old was processed, and transported to the River Valley Justice Center.

On February 15, 2023, at 10:39 p.m., Joliet Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Cruze in the 300 block of Collins Street for an expired registration. Officers identified the driver as Jose Contreras (20, Joliet), and the 17-year-old male was identified as the passenger. While speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, Officers detected an odor of burnt cannabis coming from the interior of the vehicle. Upon search of the juvenile, Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and cannabis. The juvenile was placed into custody without incident. Contreras was cited for Expired Registration and released at the scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
