Lawmakers Approve Bill Requiring Clergy To Report Cases Of Physical Abuse

State lawmakers are moving forward with a bill that would require members of the clergy in Illinois to report cases of physical abuse or neglect against children. Clergy would face possible criminal charges for failing to report such cases under a measure approved by the Illinois House Sunday. They are already required to report suspected cases of sexual abuse against children. The bill now goes back to the state Senate.
