Lawyers for Brendt Christensen say a plea deal was once on the table for their client. Christensen’s attorneys say that six months after his arrest, their client offered to plead guilty to the charges against him and reveal the location of Yingying Zhang’s remains. The deal would have meant life in prison without parole for Christensen. A jury in Peoria convicted Christensen Monday of kidnapping and killing Zhang. The penalty phase of the trial is set to begin in early July.
