Scary moments for neighbors in the Brookstone Springs subdivision in Manhattan Wednesday night. The severe weather may have caused a roof fire. A neighbor called the Fire Department to report fire coming from the roof of an end unit four cluster townhouse on Clair Circle. Manhattan Fire Chief Steve Malone says the owners of the home were on vacation at the time. Fire was shooting out of the attic of the townhouse. A sweep of the home found only the cats that are said to be safe.

Lightening the likely cause of the blaze. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one unit with damage to the attic only. No one was injured.
