Lincoln-Way Central High Schools have helped more than 40 seniors prepare to drive during the winter weather season. For the second year in a row, Lincoln-Way Central has partnered with the Village of New Lenox and its Safe Communities America Coalition, the New Lenox NAPA, and Country Financial to provide free vehicle inspections to seniors to help them prepare for winter.

Lincoln-Way automotive students, under supervision of an auto shop teacher, offered the following services:

– Check fluids – engine oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid and
windshield washer fluid
– Check belts and hoses
– Inspect tires for tread wear, cracks and dry rot
– Inspect underside suspension and front end parts
– Load test batteries
– Check coolant strength for freeze protection
– Check headlights, turn signals, parking lamps and registration plate bulbs

“The students are doing a really good service, they’re practicing the skills they learned in class and they’re doing a wonderful thing for seniors. With the partnerships that we have with NAPA, Country Financial, everyone just working together to do nice things for seniors and get them ready for winter,” said Dan Martin, Safe Community Coordinator for the Village of New Lenox.
