Illinois Secretary of State’s Office Issues Statement Regarding Lockport DMV Closure

The DMV in Lockport is set to close. According to a post from the Illinois Secretary of State on Facebook, the facility on 9th Street will close permanently on Monday, November 25th. The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office has issued a statement to WJOL regarding the reasons for the closure.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office announced the forthcoming closure of the Lockport DMV facility.

The announcement comes after the office and the building owner were unable to reach a new lease agreement.

The decision is also data-driven. Of the 30 Chicago-area DMVs, the Lockport DMV experiences the fewest number of customers on a daily basis. This is likely because it is located a short distance from two other DMVs in Joliet and Orland Park.

The Secretary of State’s office will retain all Lockport facility employees and redeploy them to nearby locations.

The last day of operation for the Lockport DMV located at 1029 – 31 E. Ninth St. is Monday, Nov. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We encourage Lockport customers to visit the Joliet DMV located at 201 S. Joyce Road or the Orland Park DMV located at 14807 S. Ravinia Ave. for services following the closure.

Customers may also obtain many DMV services online — including driver’s license, state ID and vehicle registration renewal. For a full list of available services, please visit ilsos.gov.

The post also suggested visiting the Joliet location for all DMV related needs. To find where the closest DMV site is to you, check out the Secretary of State’s DMV Facility Finder
