Madigan: No Gas Tax For Now

The top Democrat in the Illinois House says a higher gas tax in Illinois isn’t on the statehouse agenda. For now. House Speaker Mike Madigan yesterday said a higher gas tax is not on the lame duck session agenda. But today is the last day of the lame duck session. A brand new session begins tomorrow, and there are a lot of people at the Capitol who are talking about raising the gas tax. Illinois currently pays the highest combined gas tax in the country, about 51 cents a gallon on gas that costs two dollars and ten cents.
