An investigation is underway following a deadly domestic incident in southwest suburban Channahon. Police say officers responded yesterday to a home at the corner of South Fryer and Story streets on a report of a woman who had been pistol-whipped. Seventy-three year old James Darden was found shot in the backyard before he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers later found a woman who fled the scene with blunt-force trauma to her head. She was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, June 17, 2019 at approximately 12:40pm Channahon Police was called to 25254 S. Fryer St. in Channahon for a report of a female who had been pistol whipped and was now
bleeding. As officers were responding to the area gunfire was reported and the female who had been injured had fled the scene. When officers arrived, a male, identified as James Darden, age 73, was found in the back yard of the home with gunshot wounds to the torso. Channahon Fire Protection District personnel responded to the scene and transported Darden to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Darden was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The female victim, age 53, who had previously fled the scene and suffered blunt force trauma to her head, was also transported by Channahon Fire Protection District personnel to Amita St.
Joseph Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. A handgun was recovered from the scene. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators with the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force were called to assist in the investigation. Witnesses from both inside the home and neighboring residences have been interviewed and the investigation remains ongoing.

The event is domestic in nature and contained to the address on Fryer St. Social media, or other media outlets, giving reports of a mass casualty or mass shooting are unfounded and the source
of those reports is unknown to the Channahon Police Department. No children were home at the time of the incident. Channahon Police have been called to the residence on previous occasions for domestic related calls for service.
