Manley Celebrates Grant Funding for Stepping Stones
Reaffirming her support for those dealing with substance abuse and mental health challenges, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting a $240,000 grant to Stepping Stones Center, a local not-for-profit organization that provides clinical services for those in recovery.
“By expanding the capacity for treatment services, so many more people will be able to access compassionate care and get a second chance to live happy and healthy lives,” Manley said. “Stepping Stones is an incredible asset to our area and I am thrilled to see how this funding will help them continue their mission to help people struggling with addiction and mental health issues.”
Stepping Stones will use the funding to expand treatment service capacity by 34 people and meet all ADA and safety compliance standards. This involves upgrading many aspects of its facility to ensure a healthy and safe environment for its clients and staff. The Center will add beds, replace the HVAC system, add a kitchen for the two extended care units, and more. The grant was provided through the first-ever Human Services Capital Investment Grant Program, the purpose of which is to help social service providers address construction and accessibility needs.
“Not-for-profit social service organizations like Stepping Stones Center play such a vital role in improving the wellbeing of our communities, and I’m thankful to the Department of Human Services and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for recognizing their value and providing the funding to match,” Manley said. “As a state, we must continue to support these essential organizations as they provide these lifesaving services.”
