Mass Shooting Threat At Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital In New Lenox
A Kentucky man who threatened the Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital in New Lenox by email is in custody. The 25 year old was taken into custody by the Richmond Kentucky Police Department last Saturday after the New Lenox hospital received a suspicious email. A New Lenox Police officer learned that an email was sent to the hospital from an anonymous source using a Gmail account. The emailer indicated that they couldn’t afford treatment at a mental institution and that he was having homicidal thoughts.
While a NLPD detective commenced the investigation, an employee of Silver Oaks maintained email contact with the subject. The subject refused to provide his name, location or any other information that might assist in this investigation.
After several hours, the detective division discovered the emailer was in Richmond, Kentucky.
Richmond Police Department Officers arrived at the address provided by the NLPD and made contact with the 25 year old male subject who admitted to sending the emails. The individual stated to Richmond PD that the only way he felt he could get proper mental health treatment was by committing a mass shooting. The individual was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation and treatment.
Richmond PD indicated that no weapons were recovered from the subject’s home, but ammunition was recovered. According to the subject, he sent similar threats sent to approximately twenty-five other mental health facilities and said that Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital was the only facility to reach out to him.
