Metra Creating Battery-Powered Locomotives

Metra is planning to add battery-powered trains. The Metra Board of Directors approved a plan to convert up to six of the commuter rail system’s oldest diesel locomotives to zero-emission battery power. The total cost for all six locomotive conversions is nearly 35-million-dollars. Metra plans to test the battery-powered locomotives on the Rock Island Line.
