July is National Bison Month and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie has lots of programs for kids and adults alike to learn about America’s National Mammal. Veronica Hinke with Midewin in Wilmington says every Sunday through October there will be guided hikes to look for bison.

Plus July 20th, you can explore Midewin by car caravan to view restored wetlands and prairie. Also there is a “Bison-Web Cam” so you can look for bison in the comfort of your own home. In 2016, the National Forest Foundation worked in partnership agreement with the USDA Forest Service to install a bison cam. The heard roams one thousand acres. Click here for the web cam.

Five years ago Midewin started with 27 bison, there are now 80.
