New Lenox School Support Staff to Rally for New Contract
On Tuesday night, support staff at a local school district will be rallying for a fair contract. Staff at New Lenox School District 122 and the newly formed New Lenox Professional Support Staff Council are bargaining their first contract with the district. The council tells WJOL that District 122’s Board of Education has offered a pay cut for the staff in the form of increasing their insurance premiums.
“We have had six sessions with the district, and the response so far has been very disappointing,” said Rachel Tuley, president of the staff union. “Our union is made up of dedicated support staff who are happy to serve our students. We love our jobs, and our students. But the small raise the Board is offering, combined with an increase in what we pay for insurance, is not acceptable. We don’t think it’s fair, and we hope this rally will show the board that the community is on our side.”
The Support Staff Union will rally ahead of the District 122 school board meeting tonight with at 5:40 p.m. CT. at the New Lenox School District 122 Central Office on Cedar Road in New Lenox.
