The Joliet Plan Commission unanimously voted to recommend that the city council approve a rezoning of 103 acres of land which would clear the way for the Compass Business Park. The Compass Business Park is a controversial logistics center that if built, would be about 3,000 acres and cost $1.2 billion. The 103 acres is located on the south side of Breen Road and one-half mile east of Rowell Avenue in Joliet. The NorthPoint development was originally under consideration in Elwood just last year. After a vocal opposition from residents that village decided to pass on the project. The commission offered no comments prior to their vote which ended 7-0 to recommend the rezoning despite a packed city council chamber that was overwhelmingly opposed. The city council does not have a rezoning vote scheduled but the next Joliet City Council meeting will take place on November 4th.
