Nurse-To-Patient Ratio Passes House Committee

A bill is moving through the House that would set limits on the number of patients Illinois nurses can take care of at one time. The limit would likely lead to health care facilities hiring more nurses to treat the same number of patients. Advocates say insufficient staffing makes medical mistakes more likely to happen. Opponents say hospitals would have difficulty paying for all the new nurses required.
