Nurses From St. Joseph Medical Center On Strike

AMITA nurses at St. Joseph Medical Center are on strike. They walked off the job on Saturday, July 4th.They have been working without a contract since May. More money, and more staff especially in the COVID unit are the sticking points. The IIllinois Nurses Association union says one nurse has to treat three patients at one time. The hospital has been working to hire temporary nurses at $65 dollars an hour and pay for hotel and airfares.

AMITA says previous wage proposals are no longer viable due to the pandemic. The next bargaining session is set for Wednesday.
