Oral Arguments Begin Tuesday In Cases Over Illinois Legislative Maps

Oral arguments will begin Tuesday in three federal cases over Illinois legislative maps. The cases could determine the makeup of legislative maps in the Chicago area and Metro East region for the next ten years. Illinois Democrats pushed through the new district maps during a special session in August after the 2020 U.S. Census was released and Governor Pritzker signed them into law in September. Afterwards, three groups of plaintiffs filed suits in federal court to challenge them.
