Plainfield School District 202 Wins Award for Excellence in Budgeting Presentation
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 was recently awarded the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation for the fiscal year 2024-2025 by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).
Last year, only 14 out of 852 school districts in Illinois and 138 districts worldwide received this award.
ASBO International’s MBA and introductory Pathway to the MBA programs promote and recognize excellence in school budget presentation.
Program participation enhances school business officials’ skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget.
Participants submit their budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents.
The ASBO review team noted District 202’s budget document includes a wealth of information in graphic and narrative form.
“It is user friendly for the average taxpayer with an abundance of data to meet varied readers’ needs. Many components are suitable as stand-alone documents,” reviewers wrote in their award comments.
District 202’s Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations, Richard Engstrom, said the district is very proud to receive this prestigious award.
“This award affirms our district’s commitment to the gold standard of financial reporting, ensuring transparency and responsible stewardship of public funds,” he said.
The Association of School Business Officials International is a nonprofit organization that, through its members and affiliates, represents approximately 30,000 school business professionals worldwide.
