Candidate for Chicago Mayor Toni Preckwinkle is planning to raise the city’s minimum wage if she’s elected. The Cook County board president announced today that the increase will involve 50-cent increments until it reaches 15 dollars an hour no later than July 2021. The current Chicago minimum wage is 12 bucks and is expected to rise to 13 dollars on July 1st. Nearly all of the candidates seeking the City Hall fifth floor office support a 15 dollar an hour pay increase except former police superintendent Garry McCarthy.
