Pritzker Signs Lake Michigan Rescue Equipment Act

Illinois is taking steps to prevent drownings in Lake Michigan.  Governor Pritzker signed a law yesterday creating the Lake Michigan Rescue Equipment Act. The act requires public rescue equipment on all piers or drop-off points on the lake and lays out new guidelines for reporting drowning events and establishing water safety guidelines.  It was proposed following the death of 19-year-old Miguel Cisneros, who drowned in Lake Michigan in August 2021 on Chicago‘s North Side.
