Public hearing Oct. 10 on I-55 at Illinois 59 Access Study – U.S. 52 from River Road to Houbolt Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation announcing that as part of the Interstate 55 at Illinois 59 Access Study, a public hearing will be held Thursday, Oct. 10 on a proposed project to improve U.S. 52 (Jefferson Street) between River and Houbolt roads, in Shorewood and Joliet.
The purpose of the hearing is to inform the public about the project development process, present the proposed preferred alternative, including the impacts to Hammel Woods and Rock Run Preserve and obtain public input. The proposed improvements include adding an additional lane with a curbed median in each direction on U.S. 52 between River Road and Illinois 59 and intersection improvements on U.S. 52 at Illinois 59 and at I-55 and Houbolt Road. Additional improvements include new sidewalks and connections to existing trail networks to provide a continuous path for pedestrians and bicyclists through the corridor.
The public hearing will be in an open-house format. All interested parties are encouraged to attend:

Exhibits will be on display and an audio-visual presentation will be shown continuously during the meeting. Project team members will be present to answer questions.
