The Rialto Square Theatre turns 93 years of age today. The Rialto first opened its doors on this day, May 24, in 1926—-in a time where movie palaces were designed to create a fantasy environment to attract moviegoers. The Rialto has gone through changes over the years, but still remains the “Jewel of Joliet” and still attracting audiences. In the 80’s on the brink of closure the community had the will and foresight to renovate the theatre and keep it viable for decades to come. In honor of their birthday, the Rialto is inviting the public to make a donation for their 93rd birthday at rialtosquare.com/support.
