Second Arrest For Joliet Man First Arrested In Operation Streetsweeper
Donnell Brown (20, Joliet) was arrested, processed, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Unlawful Possession of Firearms – Machine Gun, Armed Violence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Cannabis, and Violation of Pre Trial Release.
On September 14, 2024, at 2:48 pm., Joliet Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Fusion in the 1300 block of Waverly Place for a suspended registration. The driver was identified as Dakota Morris (23, Joliet) and Brown was identified as a passenger in the vehicle. During the traffic stop, Officers observed a handgun on the floorboard next to Brown’s feet in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers removed Brown from the vehicle, and he was placed into custody without incident. Upon search of Brown, Officers recovered suspected cannabis, cocaine, and prescription pills.
Officers recovered the loaded handgun from the vehicle and determined that the handgun appeared to have been modified with a switch, allowing the handgun to be fired automatically. Brown was also arrested on September 4, 2024, at the same location and was found to be in possession of a handgun modified with an automatic switch as part of “Operation Streetsweeper.” Morris was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration and was released at the scene.
