Shots Fired At Couple Of Which The Shooter Was Related To One of Them
A Joliet father allegedly shoots at his daughter and boyfriend as they walk through a parking lot.
It was on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 5:24 p.m., Joliet Police Officers responded to the 1800 block of West Jefferson Street for a report of shots fired. As Officers arrived, they learned that an adult male had been observed firing a handgun at another adult male in the area and the suspect then fled the area in a van. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim and his girlfriend and learned that as they both walked through the parking lot of Pep Boys (1824 West Jefferson Street), the father of the victim’s girlfriend, Julius Jenkins, pulled up to them in a van in the parking lot. An argument ensued between Jenkins and the male victim, and it is alleged that Jenkins produced a handgun and fired it at the victim. The victim was not struck. Jenkins then fled the parking lot in the van.
Officers located Jenkins in the van near West Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Jenkins was identified as the suspect who had fired the handgun, and he was placed into custody without incident. Officers recovered three handguns upon search of Jenkins. It was determined that Jenkins held a valid FOID card and concealed carry license. Officers confiscated the FOID card following the arrest. No injuries were reported from this incident.
Forty-two year old Julius Jenkins of Joliet was arrested, processed, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, and Reckless Conduct.
