Rich East High School in Park Forest is closing. The Rich Township High School District 227 board voted this week to shut down the school as a result of decreasing enrollment. The district will now move forward with plans to consolidate the Rick East students into Rich Central in Olympia fields and Rich South in Richton Park. There was discussion to move all students from Rich Township and shutter all three schools and move the students to the closed Lincoln Way North High School but that plan was nixed. The district is considering spending up to 105-million-dollars to repair, renovate and expand the two remaining schools.
