Smollett Released From Jail While He Appeals Conviction

Jussie Smollett is out of jail less than a week into his 150-day sentence for staging a hate crime in Chicago. The former “Empire” actor walked out of the Cook County Jail last night after an Illinois appeals court ordered his release while he appeals his conviction for lying to police about being the victim of a phony racist and homophobic attack in 2019. Smollett’s defense said they “very elated” with the court’s decision.
