State Pilot Program Designed To Recruit Minority Public School Teachers

The state is launching a program designed to attract more minorities to the teaching field. Illinois Board of Education spokesperson Jennifer Kirmes says 24 colleges and universities have agreed to help come up with a plan to recruit and retain teachers of color. A recent study shows that 82-percent of teachers in Illinois are white, while more than half of the public schools have children of color.
