Students Will Be Searched Today At Joliet High Schools
Joliet Township High School spokeswoman Kristine Schlismann sent out a press release on Sunday night stating, “We are aware of a social media threat that is circulating that states all schools in Joliet will have “2 students with a weapon inside each school.” The Joliet Police Department is investigating.
Out of an abundance of caution we will search all students as they enter school tomorrow. As of 5 a.m. this morning, Schlismann issued an update,
“The source of the social media threat that circulated last night mentioning all Joliet Schools has been identified and the threat is not credible. We thank the Joliet Police Department for their quick action.”
Meanwhile, all District 86 schools in Joliet will be e-learning today. The change was made after violent threats were posted online. Joliet police say an “unsubstantiated threat” made the rounds on social media yesterday. All classes are transitioning to e-learning as a safety precaution. Police are investigating the origin of the threat.
A letter to parents from Joliet 86 Superintendent Theresa Rouse:
The Joliet Police Department is currently investigating a social media threat that is circulating about students bringing weapons to several schools in Joliet this week. Out of an abundance of caution, all Joliet District 86 schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 16, 2024 and an e-learning day will be used. The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority.
All students should log onto their devices at their regular school starting time. Attendance will be taken. Please visit our District website at https://www.joliet86.org/e-learning/ for more details.
