Sunset Vigil Held For 6yo Boy Stabbed In Alleged Hate Crime

It was a solemn occasion for the neighbors and family members who gathered last night to remember the life of the six-year-old boy killed nine days ago in an apparent hate crime. Thirty-two-year-old Hanaan Shahin, the mother of young Wadea al-Fayoume, attended her son’s candlelight vigil, just days after she was released from the hospital. The event’s organizer Sakeena Mirza said she prays this can be a reminder to learn more about our neighbors, and that love is more important than hate. Shahin’s 71-year-old landlord is accused in the October 14th attack. Prosecutors say he was worked into a frenzy after listening to media coverage of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
