SUV Crashes Into West Side Shopping Center
On November 19, 2024, at 9:36 a.m., Officers responded to the 2400 block of Caton Farm Road for a traffic crash. A preliminary investigation of the collision determined the following: A Mercedes-Benz driven by Anthony De Angelis (81, Plainfield) was northbound on Essington Road at Caton Farm Road in the left turn lane. The Mercedes proceeded to make a left turn toward westbound Caton Farm Road and collided into a Toyota Camry that was westbound on Caton Farm Road after turning from southbound Essington Road. Following the collision, it is believed the Mercedes continued into the nearby business parking lot and striking the building at The Commission Barber Company (2405 Caton Farm Road).
No injuries were reported from the crash. It was determined both southbound and northbound lanes of Essington Road had a green light at the intersection. The premises was evaluated by a city of Joliet building inspector. De Angelis was cited for Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Yield Turning Left, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
