Teacher’s Assistant Stole $17K From School District Employees Union

A teacher’s assistant is accused of stealing thousands of dollars while serving as the Crete-Monee School District 201-U treasurer. Dawn Vanderbilt is charged with felony theft. Police say she wrote herself about 20 checks worth more than 17 thousand dollars. A judge ordered Vanderbilt held on five-thousand dollars bond on Wednesday. She remains behind bars at the Will County Adult Detention Center.
