Just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday (August 21), Joliet Police officers responded to a “shots fired” bulletin in the 24-hundred block of West Jefferson Street in Joliet. Officers were able to determine the occcupants of a black SUV had fired shots at another vehicle. No one was hurt.

Police arrested 25-year old Mitchell M. Thompson of Joliet for unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, obstructing justice and fleeing or attempting to flee a peace officer.

Also arrested was 26-year old Shaquan M. Meadows of Joliet. Meadows is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, obstructing justice and fleeing or attempting to flee a peace officer.

After identifying the vehicle from which the shots had been fired, police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused. Police say that one of the occupants tossed a loaded firearm out of the window, which was later recovered at Chicago Street and Patterson Road. The SUV finally stopped at Patterson Road and Joliet Street. Thompson and Meadows were then placed into custody without further incident.
