Will County and Lewis University Partner to Host Annual “Pumpkin Catapult” Event on Nov. 2
The Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division and Lewis University are partnering to hold their annual “Pumpkin Catapult” event from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 2. The event will take place in the parking lot just south of the main entrance to Lewis University, 1 University Parkway, Romeoville.
The event features the pumpkin catapult built by the Lewis University Physics Club, which will fling pumpkins and gourds into waste containers to be reused as compost at Christensen Farms in Peotone. The Will County Farm Bureau and University of Illinois Extension Office will also be on hand offering composting information.
In addition to launching pumpkins, the event will also provide document shredding services and electronics recycling collection to attendees. There is a limit of three bank boxes of paper per vehicle and two televisions per vehicle. No registration is required.
At last year’s event, 3,380 pounds of pumpkins were collected, 6,900 pounds of documents were shredded, and 4,299 pounds of electronics were collected
