Joliet School District 86 teachers could vote to authorize a strike this week if contract negotiations go south. The 750 teachers have been working without a contract since August 31st.

District 86 has 16 Elementary Schools, 4 Junior High Schools, and 1 Alternative School.

According to the District’s website, their enrollment is 11,243 students as of September of 2018. President of Joliet 86 Teacher’s Union Therese Skwarczynski is urging teachers to march outside of JFK at 3:45 p.m. on November 12th where the union board will be meeting for negotiations.

On Wednesday, November 13th, the district will be taking an “authorization to strike” vote. This vote gives the union board authorization to strike if deemed necessary.

In addition to voting on Wednesday, November 13th, there is a board meeting that night at A.O. Marshall Elementary School at 7 p.m. located at 319 Harwood Street in Joliet. They encourage all members to show up wearing red shirts to show that they are united and seeking a fair contract.
