Bolingbrook Juvenile Charged As An Adult In Home Invasion Mass Shooting

Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow has approved formal charges against Byrion Montgomery, 17 years of age, of the 200 block of Waterman, Bolingbrook. Montgomery has been charged with First Degree Murder (9 counts), Attempted First Degree Murder, Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery with Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. His bail has been set at $20,000,000.

On March 5th, 2023, at 8:15 PM, Bolingbrook Police responded to the 100 block of Lee Lane for a report of an alleged domestic related home invasion. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adults and two juveniles had been shot. One adult female and one juvenile female were transported to an area hospital. The transported juvenile died from her injuries; the adult 34-year-old female is in stable condition. At this time, one adult male, and two juvenile females have been pronounced deceased.

 

The suspect was quickly identified. Officers attempted to locate the suspect and he was located near his residence at 10:00pm. The suspect, a 17-year-old male was taken into custody. All indications are he was the sole offender.  The suspect was in a dating relationship with the 17-year-old victim. We are working in conjunction with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office on formal charges. Once those are approved, we will provide a final release.

 

The victims were identified as Cartez L. Daniels, a 40-year-old male, and Samiya A. Shelton-Tillman, a 17-year-old female. We are waiting for positive identification on the second juvenile from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. A 3-year-old male and 14-year-old male were inside the residence at the time of the shooting and were unharmed.
