Dwight Man Arrested For Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault

Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley announcing the recent arrest of Craig M. Gregory, age 49, of Dwight, Illinois for the offenses of predatory criminal sexual assault and sexual assault by detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

During the early morning hours of 07/07/2023, Craig Gregory was taken into custody by detectives regarding a three-year-long investigation into allegations that Gregory sexually assaulted a nine-year-old in 2013. In January of 2020, an outcry was made to Sheriff’s Deputies by a teenage girl that she was sexually assaulted by Gregory in the Unincorporated Wilmington area when she was nine years old.

A Victim Sensitive Interview (VSI) was conducted by members of the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center with the victim, and the allegations were determined to be credible. The suspect, Craig Gregory, is a registered Child Sex Offender and was arrested and convicted in Cook County in 2013 for similar allegations and offenses.

Detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office attempted to speak to Gregory regarding these allegations in September of 2020, but he refused to cooperate in the investigation with detectives. Detectives continued to pursue additional evidence and statements from individuals connected to this almost ten-year-old incident. After gathering enough information, detectives met with members of the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding these heinous allegations and charges were approved.

The honorable Judge Vincent Cornelius signed an arrest warrant in the amount of $400,000.00-10% to apply for predatory criminal sexual assault and sexual assault. After being taken into custody, Gregory did speak to detectives, and was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF). Craig Gregory is in custody at the WCADF and is awaiting his initial court appearance.
