More Details Of Fatal Crash On I-55

A fatal crash on I-55 north of I-80 on Saturday takes the life of a 58-year old Romeoville woman. The Will County Coroner reports Michelle McCombs was pronounced deceased at 6:16 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th at the Amita St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. McCombs was the driver of a vehicle going northbound on I-55 and was struck from behind near mile marker 252, one mile north of Route 59. Illinois State Police report a 16 year old driver from Lockport was traveling upon a curve and observed a vehicle stopped partially in the left lane. The teen was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the vehicle. McCombs was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The teen was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police District 5 continues to investigate. The Will County Coroner conducted an autopsy on Sunday and found McCombs sustained multiple injuries due to the vehicle crash.
