On Tuesday night the Joliet City Council will vote on a resolution about authorizing a property tax abatement agreement with Harbor Freight Tools Texas pertaining to 125 acres within the CenterPoint Intermodal. Harbor Freight currently operates 1000 retail stores and two distribution centers across the country. They are currently opening new retail locations at a rate of 2 new stores a week.

The total private investment will add up to approximately $150 million. It’s estimated that during the first year of operation, the full-time employment is anticipated to be approximately 137 jobs with positions estimated to grow to 274 upon full capacity within five years of operation. It has been recommended to the council by city economic staff that the resolution be approved.
