Joliet Juvenile Charged; Police Need Public’s Help
The Joliet Police Department is investigating a Homicide that occurred in the 600 block of Chase.
On 07/14/19 at approximately 06:15am, Officers responded to the 600 block of Chase reference to shots fired. Officers were able to locate a juvenile (17 year old male) inside a vehicle near Elwood and Creed who had been shot. The juvenile was first transported to Silver Cross Hospital then air lifted to Loyola Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
During the initially course of the Investigation, Officers located a residence in the 600 block of Chase that had also been struck by gunfire. Officers were able to locate a loaded firearm and took custody of a 15 year old male. Detectives were able to determine that the 15 year old male discharged a firearm that struck a vehicle that the victim was in.
The 15 year old male was later arrested for Aggravated Battery of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Defacing ID Marks of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and No FOID. The victim was still being treated at Loyola Medical Center when the 15 year old male was initially arrested. The Will County States Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine if additional charges will be added or upgraded.
This is an ongoing investigation and is still in its early stages. The Joliet Police is actively looking into what occurred and will update the public at a later date when it has more information.

The area of focus is from the area east of Collins Street to the rail yard and between Williamson Avenue and Jackson Street.
