Rock Run Greenway Trail section to close Monday for drainage repairs

A section of the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Rock Run Greenway Trail in Joliet is scheduled to be closed from Monday, July 17, through the end of August for drainage repair work.

The 500-foot stretch of paved trail, which is prone to flooding, is located directly south of Theodore Street. The path will be raised slightly, and box culverts will be placed underneath so water can be directed to flow under the trail rather than over it.

Access to the trail from the sidewalk on Theodore Street will be improved from both directions. Trail slopes will be within Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines and the area will be buffered with turf and native seeds upon completion of path reconstruction.

Weather and other factors could affect the timeline for this project. Updates will be posted on the Forest Preserve District’s website, ReconnectWithNature.org, as necessary.

The Rock Run Greenway Trail is an 11.24-mile trail that travels south from Crest Hill through Joliet.
