The family of a Skokie woman killed in a wrong-way crash on I-55 last year in Sangamon County is taking legal action. Lauren Wegner’s father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Village of Divernon and its Police Department, Sangamon County and its Sheriff’s Office. Shane Woods is charged with first-degree murder and driving under the influence in connection to the November 8th, 2022 crash. Authorities say Woods was drunk when he drove away from a traffic stop in Divernon and hit Wegner’s car head-on while driving the wrong way on I-55. The suit claims a Divernon officer and Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy didn’t take the proper steps to prevent Woods from leaving the traffic stop.
