House Speaker Mike Madigan Sells Democrats On Minimum Wage Hike

The most powerful Democrat at the Illinois Capitol is selling his fellow Democrats on a 15 dollar-an-hour minimum wage. House Speaker Mike Madigan last week sent a letter to Democrats across the state explaining his thoughts on the minimum wage hike that’s already passed the Illinois Senate. Madigan says some workers could see a six thousand dollar raise because of the higher wage, and he brushed off worries that businesses would close because of the hike. Madigan said the state is ‘on the verge’ of raising the minimum wage, but he didn’t say when the Illinois House will vote on the plan.
