Irate Customer At Joliet Driver’s Facility Arrested After Attacking Security Guard
On April 25, 2024, at 5:14 p.m., Joliet Officers responded to the Illinois Secretary of State driver’s license facility located at 201 Joyce Road for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers learned that a 21-year-old Aareon Newell of Coal City was a customer at the building and had grown irate at the employees over a discrepancy with his identification card. It was determined that Newell grew angry and began yelling profanities and threatened physical harm toward employees and a security guard.
When an Officer attempted to speak with Newell, he continued to act belligerent and refused numerous requests from the Officer to leave the building. The Officer attempted to escort Newell from the building at which time Newell grabbed onto the Officer’s arm. The Officer took Newell to the ground and attempted to handcuff him. During the struggle, Newell rose back to his feet and struck the Officer in the shoulder and back. Newell was taken to the ground again and he kicked the Officer in the leg during the struggle as Newell continued to resist the Officer’s attempts to handcuff him. Additional Officers arrived and Newell was placed into custody without further incident. Newell was transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for a medical evaluation. Newell was released from the hospital a short time later and was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a Notice to Appear.
Aareon Newell (21, Coal City) was arrested, processed, and released on a Notice to Appear for Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.
