No Life Line For Old Courthouse At Joliet City Council Meeting

It wasn’t even close last night at the Joliet City Council meeting following a vote to designate the Old Will County Courthouse as landmark status. The initial vote was 8-1 against declaring the Brutalist architecture style building from 1969 as a landmark. Joliet City Councilman Cesar Guerrero was the lone yes vote, but the final vote was 7-2 after Joliet City Council member Jan Quillman changed her vote from “no” to “yes.”

That nay vote brings the Old Courthouse closer to the wrecking ball. The Will County Board voted in 2019 to demolish the building.
