The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that construction will resume on the Interstate 55-Weber Road interchange, in Bolingbrook and Romeoville, weather permitting, Thursday, April 11. Motorists traveling through this area should expect delays and plan accordingly.

Weber Road approaching I-55 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours, with temporary, intermittent lane closures on the exit and entrance ramps.

The closures will be permitted to take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with some overnight closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be allowed to access the ramps at all times.

The closures are necessary to install temporary pavement and other site needs so Weber Road can remain two lanes in each direction when construction on the interchange and widening begins in late June. The entire project wraps up in late 2021.

The overall improvements, scheduled to begin later this spring, consist of adding a third lane to each direction of Weber Road between 135th Street/Romeo Road and 119th Street/Rodeo Road, with modernized traffic signals and a barrier median. The interchange will be rebuilt in a diverging diamond design.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
