Woman Murdered After Opening Front Door

44 year old Tamala Clayton was shot to death when she answered her front door, according to Deputy Chief Dan Jungles of the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses said that shortly after 5 AM on July 27th, 2019, someone began pounding on the front door of a residence in the 200 block of Reichman St. in unincorporated Joliet. Clayton opened the front door and unknown person(s) immediately began firing. Clayton was shot multiple times.

Detectives are asking anyone who has video surveillance with suspicious activity between the hours of 4 AM and 5:30 AM on July 27th to call the Will County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at 815-727-8574.

The area of focus is from 4th Ave. to Doris Ave. between Chicago St. and Richards St. in Joliet.

This shooting occurred approximately 5 hours after the murder of 19 year old Marcello Dilworth on Hobbs Ave. in Joliet. Authorities are investigating the possibility of the two shootings being related.
